Uptown Minneapolis is a unique and diverse neighborhood conveniently located in Southwestern Minneapolis between The Chain of the Lakes and Downtown Minneapolis. In the late 1800s, Uptown was populated by people that took advantage of the lakes to build vacation cottages and enjoy boating recreation. By the 1920s, the housing market was expanding and growing at a faster pace than most expected. To establish the area, local businessmen re-built the Lagoon Theatre after a tragic fire and used this as an opportunity to rebrand the area and make the neighborhood widely known.

Today, Uptown is home to a wide variety of bars, restaurants, stores and entertainment. With more than 20 bars in the area, it’s easy to find a rooftop to enjoy a drink on and watch the sunset. Uptown residents fill their free time by taking part in water activities such as paddle boarding and sailing on Lake Calhoun, shopping along Hennepin Avenue amongst the diverse and trendy shops and eating some quality seafood cuisine at Stella’s Fish Café & Prestige Oyster Café.

With the changing of the seasons, brings different activities for the Uptown neighborhood to enjoy collectively as a community. During the summer, people enjoy the well-attended Uptown Art Fair along Hennepin Avenue where artists from around the world showcase their paintings, sculptures and pottery pieces. In the winter months, you can be a spectator or a player in one of the many pond hockey tournaments that take place on Lake Calhoun and Lake of The Isles.

The Uptown area is the perfect place to call home for the Minnesota resident that wants the best of both worlds, urban living combined with the classic Minnesota “lake life.”
